The Salad Days is the first volume of the autobiography of Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., published in 1988. Spanning the 1920s and 1930s, the narrative concludes in 1941, just before the United States entered World War II.

As a raconteur, actor, and diplomat, Fairbanks provides a self-portrait of his life within a distinguished circle of Hollywood figures. The book details his experiences growing up among movie legends, including his father, Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., as well as Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford. He recounts his early career in films such as The Dawn Patrol, Little Caesar, The Prisoner of Zenda, and Gunga Din. Additionally, the memoir covers his marriage to Joan Crawford, his friendships with contemporaries like Laurence Olivier, Noël Coward, and David Niven, and his interactions with mentors such as John Barrymore and Lord Mountbatten. The volume also describes his 1941 fact-finding tour of South America with his wife, Mary Lee. This edition includes a filmography and an index, offering a look at a specific era of filmmaking and the personal history of a notable figure from Hollywood's golden age.
