Set against the vibrant, tumultuous backdrop of the tenth century, Avalon is a sweeping historical saga that masterfully weaves together the destinies of two souls. Rumon, a noble descendant of Charlemagne, arrives in England as a man driven by visions of a mystical land, searching for a place of peace. In the rugged landscapes of Cornwall, he encounters Merewyn, a girl of fierce spirit and mysterious heritage, who claims descent from the legendary King Arthur.
Their lives become inextricably linked through a shipwreck and a promise, thrusting them into a world defined by the brutal Viking raids, the shifting power of the Church, and the treacherous politics of the English court. As Rumon grapples with the dangerous allure of Queen Alfrida and Merewyn fights to preserve her dignity, their journey traverses continents—from the wild moors of England to the perilous, icy reaches of Greenland and the shores of North America. This is an evocative, beautifully rendered exploration of love, sacrifice, and the enduring quest for the legendary Avalon, capturing the spirit of an era marked by both savage darkness and saintly hope.
